The service itself was always OPT-IN, but as far as I can tell the software to implement it will be forced on everyone. So you can’t choose NOT to have that software installed on your device. I think this is a mistake on their part.

      > Has there been any news from Ledger that we can opt out of that service

The Recover service is opt-in, so if you didn’t opt-in, you are by definition opt-out.

Since the service is not even available yet, no-one has opted in, and opt-in cannot be done without ID verification and payment for the service.

I know i’ll be voted down for giving correct info.

I completely rinsed my ledger and removed all my crypto funds, too many updates and crypto is kinda stupid after being in the industry for 5 years

OP, i am treating any new FW with the at risk it might have that feature embeded in. Personally not updating LL or FW.

I am also not comfortable with it.

I’ve reviewed the portion of the firmware that has been open sourced, and the recent changes to Ledger Live which orchestrates the process, and I find both to be far too much code and complexity to believe it can just be waved off with “nothing changes if you don’t opt in”.

I know there’s nothing to worry about. But I’m also not comfortable updating to be honest just due to funds being held.

Hi – The Ledger Recover service is not available just yet. When it does launch, it will be entirely optional. Updating your device firmware will NOT automatically activate the Recover service. And Ledger does not have the ability to activate Ledger Recover provided by Coincover on your behalf. You retain complete control and have the choice to not use the service and continue using your device as before.

2.64.2 is the latest Ledger Live app version and not the firmware version. We’d encourage you to check out the white paper for an in-depth overview of the service. [https://blog.ledger.com/Ledger-Recover-White-Paper/](https://blog.ledger.com/Ledger-Recover-White-Paper/)

You can learn more about this service here: [https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/9579368109597-Ledger-Recover-FAQs](https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/9579368109597-Ledger-Recover-FAQs)

We hope this helps. Let us know if you’ve more questions for us.

Of all the people that DID update, has there been any reports of funds disappearing/stolen/missing?

Not sure if I have latest FW update, but I definitely updated after the subscription thingy-m-bob came out.. I waited a little while, but updated without subscribing to recovery service. Everything seems fine so far. Not that I hold lots on there, mainly for NFTs.

I haven’t updated the firmware. If I update the Ledger Live to 2.64.2. Does it mean do I enroll for this „recover“ bullshit?

I cannot send coins out. it gives error. I am hoping updating ledger live will fix it. but i dont want to update the firmware

It’s so unpopular to say Reddit, but the recovery *option* really wasn’t a big deal. You have to opt-in. Your keys are still air locked. Yes you need to trust ledger’s code, but that was always the case. It’s really a nothing burger but people are just whiny and afraid of things they don’t understand.
