Multivendor multisig is what I would recommend, for beginners something like 2of3 where you might choose:
* Coldcard (airgapped, secure element)
* Bitbox02 or Ledger (non airgapped, secure element)
* Seedsigner, Specter DIY, Jade or Krux (airgapped stateless DIY signer)
That’s not to say you couldn’t use a Trezor, Passport or Keystone as one of the cosigners, multivendor multisig mitigates their various tradeoffs.
You create a new wallet in SparrowWallet (Sparrow is the best, but Electrum and Specter can create identical multisig quorums).
Then import your 3 hardware wallets‘ descriptors (xpub, derivation paths). In the case of Ledger you plug it in and Sparrow imports what it needs, in the case of Coldcard airgapped you need to back and forth export the Coldcard wallet descriptors, them after you’ve successfully created the multisig quorum wallet in Sparrow you need to export the wallet skeleton from Sparrow back to Coldcard via MicroSD.
It is not essential to wipe and reinitialize Ledger to use as a multisig cosigner, but once you have successfully created the multisig 2of3, you will want to send your Bitcoins from your singlesig wallet(s) to your new multisig wallet.
If you are planning to wipe Ledger, you want to make sure you 100% have the mnemonic seed backed up, or safer send the Ledger’s singlesig Bitcoins to one of your other cosigners‘ singlesig wallet and wait till it has been mined with 3 confirmations, then you can reset Ledger and then create your 2of3 multivendor multisig in Sparrow
