Ich denke darüber nach, mir einen nano X zuzulegen, bin aber noch unschlüssig, ob ich mit Trezor oder Ledger arbeiten soll. Eine meiner Fragen ist, ob Ledger mit seiner proprietären Firmware bestimmte Geräte davon abhalten kann, Updates zu erhalten. Ist das jemandem hier bekannt? Ich weiß, dass dies zum Beispiel bei Mobiltelefonen möglich ist.

For what reason? They would want to keep all devices up to date for security and feature updates. Your crypto is on the blockchain not on the device.

As an example, say a batch of phones get stolen, their manufacturer (samsung) can then blacklist a whole batch of devices. Is this something that is possible with Ledger?

Preventing firmware updates would prevent users from accessing chains like Kusama.

In any case, firmware update is never automatic, you have to manually initiate it. If you don’t want to update, just don’t update.

Only part of the firmware is closed source. Most is open source.

But the Ledger Live software could stop the firmware update so really what matters is the Ledger Live software. And that wouldn’t be any different with Trezor vs Ledger.

Ledger actual has gps tracking built into the firmware so if someone steals your Ledger Nano, you can go over to there house and help them set it up. Maybe give them some tips on what&where to buy. (obviously /s)
