Gast::Crypto thefts from using LastPass are VERY common.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/lastpass-breach-linked-to-theft-of-44-million-in-crypto/amp/You should not consider LastPass safe for anything. You should consider every account you had stored in LastPass compromised.
Change to something else like BitWarden.

Gast::Little chance to get it back but you should report to the police anyway. The more people do, the more likely it is the scammer gets flagged, the more likely exchanges will shun scammer accounts, the more secure the entire space becomes. Civic duty basically.
And yes should not have stored it online. Sidenote: That means that _everything_ in your password manager is in the hands of your attacker. Best practice is to use hardware keys as additional authentication/encryption factor. A couple of yubikeys or fido2 keys would have made this unbreachable.

Gast::Self custody is a tough thing for people. When I was first getting into bitcoin all I heard was don’t ever let your keys near a camera. Don’t take a picture of them, don’t say them out loud next to a device that has a microphone. And definitely don’t store them anywhere online or on a computers.
Sounds like last pass isn’t as secure as people think.
I doubt this will go anywhere if you file a police report. $13,000 of crypto that could be in a Nigerian bank account by now. I hope you can get up and put one foot in front of the other. Move past this and start stacking again. But I hope this can be a lesson learned. Keep your keys offline.

Gast::Lastpass was most definitely the mistake; well known figures in the space like ZachXBT and MetaMask developer Taylor Monahan have been very vocal about this connection. Did you miss these reports? Prob time to follow them. https://cointelegraph.com/news/lastpass-breach-hacker-steals-millions-crypto-wallets-zachxbt

Gast::Each day is always the same as a broken record. People only open this sub when they lose it all it is very sad because everyone hate scammer but how can this happen over and over the self custody rule are kind of simple and its not like those simple rule are hidden from everyone thise thing are preached multiple time daily.
Self custody is really bot for everyone and mainstream ready even if it seems simple for some of us its like natural selection some will never make it.

There are currently two class action lawsuits, potentially more against Last Pass over this right now.
Joining one of the class actions is probably the only way you’re going to see any of your money back and even then it probably won’t be all of it. There’s no way to get the hackers to return it, short of asking nicely and saying please.

Gast::Well, this has been a painful lesson. Thanks to all those that replied with sincerity. Police report filed and reached out to Ledger and Lastpass but not expecting any of those to go anywhere. Just glad this wasn’t my life savings or anything. Hopefully the lump in the stomach goes away soon.

Gast::How is it that this happened 2 months ago and you are just now figuring out the drain? And been in a vacuum for the last two months with all of the other “drained” victims not understanding self custody or seed storage best practices posts on here, twitter or any other crypto source.
I feel for you, but can’t help to feel that you were the prime victim that scammers look for.

Gast::Ouch … 7+ eth. There’s nothing you can do about it. I don’t get why people ignore the steps and warnings when setting up a account. It says multiple times write it down, etc etc. it’s a small inconvenience for $13k. Sorry that happened to you. The exchange maybe able to freeze the funds if they haven’t already been cashed out. If you can figure out what exchange it was. Mexc is good about freezing funds quickest way is to reach out on Twitter

Gast::Hi there, I’m terribly sorry ro this situation, unfortunately Ledger cannot directly help recover stolen funds. If you’re the victim of online theft, please reach out to your local police for further counsel.
In the meantime, our help center article should provide you with everything you need to know.
