Ich würde gerne das 25. Wort auf eine Seed-Phrase setzen, die vor einiger Zeit von einer Ledger-Wallet generiert wurde. Ist es möglich, dies jetzt zu tun oder muss es getan werden, wenn die Seed-Phrase generiert wird? Ich bin mir nicht ganz sicher, wie das 25. Wort bei der Erstellung einer Seed-Phrase ins Spiel kommt.

First, the bip39 passphrase should NOT be a word, especially not a dictionary word. Id should be an arbitrary text string, e.g. made of multiple words or random characters of your chosing, and it should be at least 15 characters if you want more security (i.e. no possible to bruteforce it in case someone finds your 24 words).

You can set a passphrase at any time, but be aware that the passphrase (when active) will cause a whole new set of accounts and addresses to be generated by your ledger. A passphrase cannot protect existing accounts that were created with (i.e. derived from) just the 24-word recovery / seed phrase. To get the extra protection of the passphrase, you will need to transfer all your cryptos to the new accounts / addresses derived from the passphrase.

Note that the passphrase by itself is not sufficient to recover access (e.g. in case your ledger gets lost or resets). You need the 24-words, PLUS the passphrase.

You can add the 25th at any point after your seeds are generated it can be years it’s just another set of addresses under the same seeds but you use a newly created pin to access and if you ever need to restore you accounts you simply input your 24 seeds and reenter your created 25th passphrase

If I’m not mistaken I believe this can still be accomplished even after the seed phrase has been generated. This can be done at anytime after the 24 words have been created. Just be cautious and remember the word or write it down someplace safe.

So as others have said, the passphrase can be added at any time. To put it simply, it basically creates a new wallet with a different set of addresses and can be setup at any time. You have the option of creating a new pin and tying said passphrase to the new pin (recommended), or using the passphrase temporarily which means you’ll have to input said passphrase each time you use your ledger.

With the first option, you can choose to toggle between your original, non-passphrase wallet and your passphrase wallet simply by entering the respective pin for each.

Friendly reminder that if you’re using ledger live, you’ll need to add the new passphrase wallet as an additional account.

Hey, to add to the helpful comments, currently if you hold any funds, they are protected by your 24 words recovery phrase. You can indeed set-up a 25th passphrase on top of your 24 words, this will unlock a set of new private accounts. The 25th passphrase can be either a temporary passphrase (which you create) or a secondary PIN. You can check the set-up steps here: [https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005214529-How-to-set-up-a-passphrase-?docs=true](https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005214529-How-to-set-up-a-passphrase-?docs=true)

Please keep in mind however, for future reference if you ever needed to restore your funds, you will need to make sure to have the 24 words recovery phrase + the 25th passphrase restored correctly to access your funds which you have protected by your 24 words and the 25t passphrase. More about restoring passphrase account explained here: [https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/4983095135261-How-to-recover-your-passphrase-accounts-?support=true](https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/4983095135261-How-to-recover-your-passphrase-accounts-?support=true)

And just a side note, if you set-up a 25th passphrase, you can send whatever funds you want from the 24 words recovery phrase protected accounts to the 25th passphrase protected accounts! Hopefully this better clarifies

It looks like a consensus of sorts has been reached among the users of most of the popular devices… i.e. that what was once called „25th word“ (mostly on Ledger forums I think) is now referred to as „passphrase“. Not to be confused with „seed-phrase/recovery-phrase“ (the 12/18 or 24 word set), or „password“ (used to access some apps or devices).

Passphrase is an advanced feature. Just don’t forget it. An advanced user can use both a pin and no pin attached passphprase to its benefit
