It’s only a problem if they included a seed phrase written down already. If it’s was initiated by you then you’re fine. But no harm in resetting and setting a new phrase if you haven’t used it yet.

Reset it again just in case. Nothing to lose, and you’ll sleep better.

      > However some people are saying it is possible third party sellers might have access to the seed phrase the ledger device produces the 1st time.

This has never been observed and is unlikely to even be possible unless the hardware itself is not genuine, since only ledger firmware can run on the genuine hardware.

I usually boot the device in recover mode to check that it is genuine (by connecting to Ledger Live), this allows doing the genuine check before generating the recovery seed phrase.

But resetting and generating a new phrase will cause no harm, and can make you feel safer.

Odds are heavily in favor you are fine but another test you can do is just deposit a few different coins in and let it sit a few days/week. Scammers will empty you out pretty quickly. With any new cold wallet I drop in a bit over time at first to make sure everything stays ok.

Edit: you can also lookup how to use a passphrase to create another set of accounts protected by a custom 25th word but don’t do this until you are a pro at the standard way.

I bought mine from ledger and still created 3 phrases before I kept one. Took awhile and im paranoid about crypto stuff but I recommend you at least create one more to be safe (not saying youre not safe now but why not do one more)

Did you buy it new, wrapped in clear plastic. Fresh in box? If so, you should be good. I have 6 ledgers. 4 purchased on Amazon.

Hey, sometimes a possible attack can happen during shipment, where the device can be set-up, and the 24 words would be written on a the sheet, this means the attacker also has a copy. Indeed, if you set-up your PIN, generated your 24 words recovery phrase from your device’s screen, and then passed the genuine check, then you have nothing to worry about [https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/4404389367057-Is-my-Ledger-device-genuine-?docs=true](https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/4404389367057-Is-my-Ledger-device-genuine-?docs=true)
