Danke!

Gast::I’m sorry you’re having this experience u/MemoryOk7726 – considering you said you don’t have your 24 word recovery phrase written down, you’ll want to approach this situation very carefully.
As you mentioned, if the Ledger device disconnects for any reason during the firmware update, it may reset. **If the Ledger device resets and you don’t have your 24 word recovery phrase, the funds will be** ***permanently*** **lost.**
In the case that you’re still able to unlock your Ledger device, you may be able to send your funds out using Ledger-compatible 3rd party wallets, however depending on which versions of each crypto app you have installed on your Ledger, you may or may not be able to send each unique asset type out.
For example, if you’re looking to send BTC, you can use [Electrum](https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005161925-Set-up-and-use-Electrum?docs=true) as a 3rd party wallet and try to send your BTC out manually, using your Ledger device as a hardware-connected wallet. Alternatively, if you have ETH or any other ERC-20 assets you’re trying to send out, you can repeat this process with [MetaMask](https://www.ledger.com/academy/security/the-safest-way-to-use-metamask).
Ideally, you’ll repeat this process for each unique crypto, using a Ledger-compatible 3rd party wallet for each unique crypto (for example BTC versus ERC-20 tokens, versus Solana-based SPL tokens and so forth).

Gast::Just downgrade with an old version that’s compatible with your firmware. You can get them on the ledger site:

Gast::This is still an issue and the Ledger HR support has decided to ghost me. There currently seems to be no solution other than risking it for the biscuit and updating firmware with risk of not having the key phrase.
Last solution I’ve considered, download the binary of the current ledger —> buy a new one —> attempt to flash the old binary onto the new one. Wondering if anyone knows about any protections that block this process from being possible/plausible. Really looking for help here, my ledger is well over 80% of my current net worth.

Gast::Hopefully things work out for you but the seed is most important more important than the ledger. The whole firmware update issue is the most random issue to have considering you would have been screwed if you dropped your ledger in water, fire, lost it, etc etc
If you get it figured out maybe get another hardware wallet and keep the seed somewhere safe. Then transfer to that one. Right now it sounds like I can snap your ledger in half and you’d be screwed. Too many points of failure.

Gast::There is always a risk that the ledger will reset if the firmware update „goes bad“, especially when updating older firmwares. So if you have large funds, I would recommend that you don’t do it unless you have your seed phrase.
There are always ways to recover funds when people have a Ledger with outdated firmware and lost their recovery seed. We have done successful recoveries for several clients in the same situation, You can see some of the detailed reports here:
