Your ledger was not hacked. You were scammed, and either your seed phrase was compromised or you signed a malicious contract. This is the case 100% of the time.

Explore all possible attack vectors, did you actually generate the account on the ledger itself? Do you live by yourself? Did you do any updates recently, interact with anything asking for seedphrase? Somehow feels like we’re not getting the full story from you.

Have you ever typed your 24 word seed on a computer keyboard for any reason? Have you ever taken a picture of your words for any reason?

For all the people jumping in he typed his seed phrase into his phone. Had nothing to do with any updates

did you initialize your ledger device yourself when you got it? have you ever entered your seed words to any other device (computer, phone, tablet, whatever) than your ledger? have you ever took a picture of your seed words? had anyone else a chance to take a picture of your seed words?

Everyone seems to be ignoring this line: „hacker converted free token given to me“

Does this mean OP interacted with something scammy sent to him??

Prior the revelations people would confidently say and guarantee this is a user error as it’s impossible for keys to leave the device. Funny how people can’t claim that now.

I’m sorry you’re having this experience u/Cryptoviribus – cases of stolen funds are never easy.

Ultimately, there are only 2 ways to remove funds from a Ledger device:

      1. With access to the physical Ledger device (and knowledge of the PIN code).
      2. Access to or knowledge of the 24 word recovery phrase.

Malicious smart contracts can drain singular parent accounts, however this wouldn’t apply to assets such as XRP – and if you had multiple accounts drained, this would indicate that the 24 word recovery phrase was compromised (as opposed to a singular account, like with malicious smart contract signatures).

In cases where you have had assets taken without your physical confirmation (using the Ledger device), it is most likely that somebody got access to your recovery phrase. It would be helpful in your case to figure out how someone may have gotten access to your recovery phrase. Some common ways this happens is putting your recovery phrase into a computer, or taking a picture of it – or saving it in any sort of digital format/medium.

Notably as well, there are fake phishing instances of software impersonating Ledger Live, and these trick users into mistakenly entering their 24 word recovery phrase into the fake phishing software, compromising it.

**Importantly:** [Ledger Live](https://www.ledger.com/ledger-live) **will** ***NEVER*** **ask users to enter their 24 word recovery phrase into the application**. If you ever see this, then you know it’s a fake phishing software and it should be ignored and reported to us. If you have not already, I would suggest that you file a police report with your local police station.

Please note that Ledger is not able to recover the funds, this is only achievable by a law enforcement agency. Ledger will assist where we can, but the action must be initiated by the police / investigating agency.

Remember, you can also open a ticket with us, [here](https://support.ledger.com), at our official support page, and we can help answer any other questions you may have.

Hello op! I personally think the update was the problem. Did you start it directly from the Ledger app or from an email of some sort. Its quite a coincidence that both happened on the same day.

Hackers can compromise your system very easily. You should take your system in to get a thorough security scan.

How many different coins were extracted..? People on reddit keep talking about „you comprised your seed,“ but if that was the case you would have lost ALL of your crypto (Probably).. if you think your seed is comprised, get the other (alt) coins into another wallet before they extract the keys for the other Blockchains! Otherwise, might have been a compromised smart contract with something you interexted with, or a hack on some Dex (or whatever).. comprised SEED will cause you to lose everything, not likely just one coin.
