Gast::Once you get the ledger wallet my advise is as follows
1: Generate seed phrase
Write down seed phrase on provided cards do not take photos of it.2: press both buttons go to security
3: passphrase
4: create your custom passphrase it can be a max of about 120 characters so you could do something like I@bird€1058>echo^61 or some other kinda nonsense, the custom passphrase can be stored safely on your phone so long as the seed phrase is purely physical. Do note it’s case sensitive
5: install wallet apps and generate your wallet address, send a small amount of crypto to your wallet address
6: input your pin wrong 3 times to reset it
7: restore your ledger device with your seed phrase
8: go back into security and input your passphrase
9: attempt to send back the small crypto that was sent I’ll advise using Doge or Cardano something cheap on gas fees for testing, BTC works to since it’s usually cheap on gas.
This is basically just ensuring that if you lose your hardware wallets that your seed phrase and passphrase are correct so that you can indeed recover your assets.
Once that’s done store in a safe place, I’ll even go a step further and write down the seed phrase on another card and store in 2 separate locations.
Note without your passphrase no one can steal your Crypto even if they stumble across your seedphrase.
And if they get your Passphrase it’s useless unless they find your seedphrase.
This is why passphrase is so important and it’s why everyone should use it to protect their assets

Gast::I have had mine for two years with no problems. Save your recovery phrase and you can always restore to another device. As is true with all hardware devices the question is not if they will fail (they all will fail over time). The question is when it will fail (you can never predict when).

Gast::No problems at all with my Ledger. I don’t plan on using their recovery service. I don’t plan on keeping all crypto security on any single device.
As noted above, your crypto is on the blockchain. You have an address and a seed phrase for your crypto. Those are most important to keep safe.
You don’t “need” a device but having a hardware wallet with your seed phrase secured can ease performing crypto transactions.

Gast::Your being very smart asking for advice before purchasing. So as much research as possible, hardware wallets are very secure but if you don’t study enough they can be even more dangerous. That being said I have had a s+ for over a year now. I only update it/use it when it’s time to move any coin. So far I’m happy with it. It’s very easy to use. But def ask all the questions, watch many YouTube videos, and like always ignore any dms on Reddit

Gast::I wouldn’t recommend anyone buy a Ledger any longer due to incorporated backdoors and the general change in ethos from the Ledger company which amounts to nothing less than betrayal of its existing user base.
If these aren’t real issues for you then yes, Ledgers are very reliable. I’ve owned several and not had a single one breakdown or go faulty. Not been keeping up to date with Ledger (I’ve lost interest in following the stupid antics of this company to increase its profit margins) but last time I checked Ledger Nano wasn’t scheduled for the dodgy update (aka backdoor update) so maybe go for that.
Though if you totally trust Ledger and feel their employees are competent (judging from history they’ve already proved they are not) then go with Ledger Nano X as the extra storage space sure comes in handy. It’s just more future proof and you buy something once that you remain completely happy with.

Gast::Hey, It’s great to hear that you’re considering a Ledger wallet for your crypto assets. Ledger wallets are designed with high standards of security and reliability. However, like any electronic device, they can encounter issues, but these are usually rare and often resolvable.
If a Ledger device ever stops working, it’s important to remember that your crypto assets are not stored in the device itself, but on the blockchain. The Ledger device holds your private keys, which are used to access your assets on the blockchain. As long as you have your 24-word recovery phrase, you can restore your assets on a new device.
Regarding the choice between Ledger Nano S and Ledger Nano X, both are reliable and secure. The Nano X has additional features like Bluetooth connectivity and a larger storage capacity, which allows it to hold more apps simultaneously compared to the Nano S. The Nano S Plus is also an option, offering large storage capacity like the Nano X but without Bluetooth and a battery.
Ultimately, the choice depends on your personal needs and preferences. You can compare the different Ledger devices here: [https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/4494199880221-Ledger-Nano-S-Plus-Frequently-Asked-Questions](https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/4494199880221-Ledger-Nano-S-Plus-Frequently-Asked-Questions)
If you need further assistance or have more questions, feel free to ask.
