      Hallo,

Storing your seed phrase is 100% more important than backup hardware wallets.

Same. I have a second hardware wallet… just in case.

I update them in tandum. When an update comes, I update the one with the oldest firmware, then put the non-updated one back in storage. That way if there is ever a tainted firmware I still have one on the previous revision.

It’s a good idea. Regardless of the controversy. Using the X but have a brand new in box S – OG version waiting just in case.

I have a ledger nano x still in its’ box in my safe for the sole reason as a backup if my current nano x or nano s become inoperable for any reason.

I have 2 ledger Xs both set up. Both with the same code/keys, and passphrase.

I keep them both up to date.. but one always back in the box. And away. The other, is my primary.

If I loose one. I don’t have to buy another one right away, and back it up.

I had a Nano X sitting unboxed for a year. It took so long to charge that I thought it was DOA but I was able to set it up after it charged for a day+.

A second hardware wallet (backup/clone with the same seed phrase) is what everyone should have.

I have 3, setup with the same master…

I don’t want separate wallets, it would be too confusing. And it’s useful to have devices at various places.

      I like it at least

Always have a backup but use it from time to time and ensure it’s firmware is up-to-date. Don’t just leave it stored for 6 months or more at a time.

There’s no problem doing this other than for niche applications that keep a context on the device. The only one that’s relevant is likely the Security Key application (formerly known as U2F), if the remote site enforces counter checks – in that case, you’d only be able to use it on one device at a time

I have at least one backup for all of my different hardware wallets (4 of them lol). Paranoid AF and easy to be ready to go if one breaks or fails or need to move to a new seed easier etc.

You could, but as I said elsewhere, if you want to leverage two devices for security, the best thing to do is to setup a multisig, like Gnosis safe or Argent.

Then you have the security of having an wallet that requires two signatures (both your ledgers) to function.

Look up Gnosis Safe or Argent.

I did this yesterday with a Nano S Plus after adding a passphrase a few days ago, realizing im kind of stuck if my Ledger Nano X fails. I have a 3rd ready on stand by and a Stax on the way lmao. (I totally prefer the S Plus over the X now)

No doubt the weakest link in the crypto opsec chain is how well you have protected your seedphrase backup, and also revoke any/all contract approvals since your device is not needed to transact in case an approved contract goes rogue.

You should always have 2 ready to go, just in case one has a hardware failure and you really need to move coins.

If you can swing it I recommend 2 at home + 1 off site.

You can also use the same seed in different manufacturer’s wallets. Check online for compatability.

Buy 2 Trezors, your ledger is comprised as Ledger can take your seed phrase.

It’s no joke, Ledger is not safe for crypto.

Using my Ledger X to hold all the accounts and Nano S to just store ETH and Polygon app. If the X dies it’s not the end of the world as I can uninstall/reinstall apps.

At the moment I only hold XRP so I have most of my XRP on my ledger and then some I have on XUMM

I don’t know which is „more safe“ but I always feel like a cold storage wallet is still safer than any hot wallet.

There’s literally no reason to get a backup device with the same phrase. You can get another if you lose your ledger and then load it up from the phrase. There might be a benefit maybe if two ledgers with two different phrases though?

I keep four working Ledgers at all times. I rarely go through the process of setting up a wallet from the 24-word seed phrase. So, I worry about not being able to do it. Keeping four working Ledgers at all times gives me the confidence that I will be able to access my crypto even if, for some reason, I lose or break one of my Ledgers (or even three of them).

It’s totally to your benefit to have more than one. If you know anything about multisig you’ll probably need several to be honest. Got my first one in 2015. I have 3 ledgers now 2 Nano X and 1 Nano S and a CryptoSteel Capsule. If you’re using any web3 applications I believe 2 minimum is a requirement. You can use it as 2FA FIDO too.

They usually got good deals on family packs around the holidays as well.

I know the firmware update for 3rd party recovery is a questionable move and is an issue but it’s still better than nothing in terms of security. Trezor has its drawbacks too.

It’s a great idea to have a backup device in case something happens to the Ledger you currently have.

I recently had a situation where I lost my Ledger for a day or two and there was quite a bit of market volatility and – **thankfully** – I had a backup device that I was able to restore my funds into and transact from, for the time being.

Turned out the Ledger I was looking for was in a jacket pocket – but I wouldn’t have found it for a couple of days and so – backups do indeed come in handy, especially if it’s really an emergency.

Sure, you could do this. But, why not just keep your seed phrase super safe and then if something happens to your Ledger, you just order a new Ledger, then restore the new one to be like your old one with your seed phrase?

Getting a second Ledger and setting it up with your current wallet and recovery phrase can be a good idea as it provides an additional backup device.

It’s not necessary. What you should do instead, is try to recover your seedphrase by resetting your ledger (while it doesn’t have a lot of funds), so you know your recovery method works, and you didn’t save wrongly your seedphrase on a paper.

Then, in the eventuality your Ledger breaks, get a new one a this moment.

Are you guys aware that you dont need a second hardware wallet to access your funds if you lose your first one, right?

I have 2 ledger devices, and bought a trezor just to be sure. Thinking about getting a tangem wallet also.

It’s better to spread the risk as much as possible imo.I try to spread the balance evenly
